Schlangen places third in contest

Andrea Schlangen Andrea Schlangen, a sixth grader at Paynesville Area Middle School, placed third among 12-year-old girls in the 32nd annual Knights of Columbus free throw contest.

The state final was held at the Target Center on Sunday, March 26, before the Minnesota Timber-wolves' game with the New York Knicks. Schlangen made 16 of 25 free throws to tie for third and then made three of five free throws in overtime to take third place outright.

She is the daughter of Dale and Julie Schlangen of Lake Henry. She won a local free throw contest and regional contest in Willmar to qualify for state.

Brittany Roelike, 10, of Lake Henry and Daniel Weidner, 11, of Lake Henry also competed in the state free throw contest but did not place. Roelike is the daugther of Joel and Joyce Roelike of Lake Henry, and Weidner is the son of JoAnn and Scott Weidner of Lake Henry.
