Squirts end season with 26-3 record

The Paynesville-New London-Spicer (PNLS) Squirt hockey team competed in an eight-team tournament Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, in Richmond.

The PNLS Squirts could not beat the St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) defense and were shut out for the first time this season. STMA led 2-0 after two periods, scoring once while PNLS was short-handed. In the third period, STMA erupted with four goals. PNLS had 15 shots on goal, while Matt Schoen stopped 16 STMA shots.

Paynesville-New London-Spicer 3

After leading 3-1, the PNLS Squirts gave up three consecutive goals in a tough loss to Buffalo. Jamie Paul scored the three goals for PNLS, assisted once by Alex Naujokas and once by Justin Bork. Goaltender Matt Schoen had 23 saves.

Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato 1

In the third game of the Squirt tournament, hosted by Cold Spring Area Hockey, PNLS bounced back and totally outplayed LDC. Jamie Paul and Alex Naujokas scored four goals each, Justin Bork scored twice, and Ross Barten scored once. Max Lahr had four assists, Joseph Jacklitch three assists, Derek Looman two assists, and Justin Bork, Ross Barten, Patrick Roers, and Matt Schoen had one assist each. PNLS goaltender Danny Lien recorded three saves.

Mound 2

In their final game of the season, the PNLS Squirts played Mound Sunday afternoon, March 7, in Mound.

The team played their last tournament game at 8:30 a.m., then headed to Mound for a 4:15 p.m. game.

The PNLS Squirts scored on half of their shots on goal to beat Mound. Jamie Paul led the way scoring seven goals, Alex Naujokas scored the other three. Derek Looman had three assists, Justin Bork, and Naujokas one. Goalie Matt Schoen stopped seven Mound shots.

The PNLS Squirts ended their season with a 26-3 overall record. They were also undefeated in district five league play with a 14-0 record.
