The Paynesville gymnasts recently ran a mini camp for third through sixth graders. The camp started on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and ended on Friday, March 2.

Twenty-two girls participated in the mini camp. The girls learned a variety of skills on all of the equipment.

On the vault, the young gymnasts learned squat-ons, squat-throughs, and handspring vaults.

The girls swung like monkeys on the uneven bars. They learned how to push away, do back hip circles, and jump ups.

Handstands were the girls' favorite skill on the balance beam. The other skills the gymnasts learned were leap series, cartwheels and mounts.

On the floor exercise the young gymnasts learned basic skills, from cartwheels to leaps. They also learned front and back walkovers.

When asked, fifth grader Tajae Viaene said, "I like the balance beam the best."

The varsity and junior varsity team will have their end of the year banquet on Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Northern Lights.
