Bulldogs eliminated from district playoffs

By Ann Stalboerger

The Paynesville girls' basketball team ended their roller-coaster season on Tuesday, Feb. 28, with a 59-43 loss to the ACGC Falcons in the District 20 playoffs.

Falling behind early in the game, the Dogs trailed 14-7 after the first quarter and were unable to dig themselves out of this offensive debt later in the game.

The Dogs played well the next two quarters, scoring 34 points to stay even with the Falcons. But ACGC, seeded third, outscored the Dogs, seeded sixth, 11-2 in the fourth quarter and won 59-43.

According to coach Ric Koehn, the Dogs put up a valiant fight against the Falcons and lost to a very talented team.

Senior wing Ann Stalboerger and junior post Amanda Glenz teamed up to lead the offense for the Dogs with 16 points apiece. Stalboerger also dished out eight assists, and Glenz grabbed nine boards.

The Bulldogs lost five straight games to start the season, won six straight, lost four, won two, and lost four again to finish the season with an overall record of 8-13. They finished 4-6 in conference.
