Tech ends Stars' hockey season, 6-0

By Michael Jacobson

The River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team ended their season in the first round of the Section 8AA playoffs, losing 6-0 to St. Cloud Tech last week.

State-rated St. Cloud Tech, seeded #2 in the section, outshot the Stars 55-12 and scored two goals in each period at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Junior Brian Lahr scored a hat trick and added an assist for Tech, who scored three power-play goals, two at even strength, and one short-handed. Lahr scored two of his goals in the first period, the first seven minutes into the game and the second with a minute left in the period. He scored again in the third period and also added an assist.

Senior goalie Blake Theisen - one of seven seniors on the River Lakes team this year - made 49 saves for the Stars, who were seeded #7 in Section 8AA.

Tech had beaten the Stars 10-0 in February in Richmond in a Central Lakes Conference contest.

The Stars finished the season with a record of 12-12, setting a new team record for most victories in a season. In 2002-03, the Stars finished 5-15-1.
