Lakers place fifth at tourney

Squirt hockey team The Paynesville-New London-Spicer (PNLS) Lakers squirt hockey team participated and placed fifth in a squirt tournament in Redwood Falls over the weekend of Jan. 25-27.

The Lakers skated hard, earning a tie in four games. PNLS tied a team from Brookings, S.D., 2-2 in an exciting finale to the weekend. This game determined who would place third, fourth, and fifth in the tournament.

Hopkins won the tournament, followed by Redwood Falls, Brookings, Richfield, and PNLS.

Minnesota Vikings' placekicker Gary Anderson, whose son plays on the Hopkins team, surprised the Lakers with a visit to their lockerroom following the Hopkins game. The team also received many compliments for their excellent display of sportsmanship.

Not pictured are coaches Troy Caldwell, Bob Mrozek, and Greg Hedman.

The Lakers will host a tournament this weekend (March 2-3) at the Koronis Civic Arena.
