Huskies top Dogs to secure WCCN title

Junior Kendra Johnson The Albany Huskies defeated the Bulldogs girls' basketball team 68-41 last week to secure the conference title. The Huskies were undefeated in nine conference games through Monday, Feb. 23, after completing a season sweep of the Bulldogs, who finished second in the West Central Conference North.

Junior Kendra Johnson scored two points as the Bulldogs lost to Albany last week.

Albany beat the Bulldogs 86-54 in January in Paynesville and won in Albany 68-41 on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The Huskies led 31-20 at the half and 47-34 after three quarters. They broke open the game by outscoring the Dogs 21-7 in the fourth quarter.

The state-rated Huskies are 19-4 this season. They qualified for the Class AA state tourney last year.

The Bulldogs, who ended their conference season with a record of 7-3, are now 14-6 overall.

This week, the Bulldogs will play their final regular-season game. The Dogs will host state-rated ACGC on Thursday in Paynesville.

Next week, the Bulldogs will start the subsection playoffs. The Dogs are seeded third, behind #1 NL-S and #2 EV-W. In the first round, the Dogs will host #6 Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m.
