Registration for the 1999 Firearms safety classes will start Monday, March 1.

Area students can register at the Paynesville Area Elementary and Middle schools. Area students not attending school in Paynesville can pick up a registration form from Vicki Jenniges at Community First National Bank in Paynesville.

The Minnesota Firearms Safety Certificate serves as a hunting license from age 12 until age 16. No one under age 16 can buy a deer license unless they have a Firearms Safety Certificate. No one 16 or older born after Dec. 31, 1979, can buy a license to take wild game by firearms unless they have a Firearms Safety Certificate or evidence that they have taken a Hunter Safety Course in another state.

Anyone who will be 12 years old or older by Nov. 5, 1999, may take the course. Course cost is $5.

Instruction will be held at the Paynesville Area Middle School on Tuesday nights beginning March 9. Classes will begin at 7:30 p.m. and go until 9:30 p.m.
