Roseau eliminates River Lakes in hockey

By Michael Jacobson

The Roseau Rams broke a 1-1 tie with two goals late in the first period and proceeded to score seven straight goals and eliminated the River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team from the Section 8AA playoffs last week.

The Rams, seeded second behind Moorhead, scored two goals in the last two minutes of the first period, including a goal with two seconds to play in the period to take a 3-1 lead. They scored once midway through the second period, and then scored four times in the last ten minutes of the game to win 8-1.

After Roseau scored eight minutes into the game, senior Andy Schramel tied the score at 1-1 with a goal 30 seconds later. The game was tied for most of the first period (first at 0-0 and then at 1-1) before Roseau took the lead for good 15 minutes into the game.

Roseau outshot the Stars 52-21, but the game was much more contested than the last time the two teams played. In February 2000, River Lakes played top-seeded Roseau in the first round of the section playoffs and lost 13-0, getting outshot 55-7.

Junior goalie Eric Prowker made 44 saves for the Stars against Roseau this time.

The Stars finished their 2004-05 season with a record of 7-15-2.

River Lakes--1 0 0 - 1
