Stars lose regular season finale 7-5

This article submitted by Chris Jacobson on 2/23/00.

The Stars played only one game last week against Annandale/Maple Lake. AML rents the ice at the Koronis Civic Arena from the Paynesville-New London-Spicer Hockey Association for practices and games. As a result, the game was played in Paynesville, but the Stars were the visiting team.

The Lightning scored first, but then the Stars' Brett Theisen scored two goals to end off the first period, with the Stars ahead 2-1.

On the scoreboard, the second period was all Annandale/Maple Lake, who scored twice to take a 3-2 lead.

The Stars tried to answer back in the third period, but the Lightning scored the first two of the period. The Stars pulled within one at 5-4 after goals by Andrew Schmitt and Chris Jacobson, but AML scored twice again to pull away.

The final score was Annandale/Maple Lake 7, River Lakes 5.

Junior forward Brett Theisen had a hat trick for the Stars. Senior defenseman Eric Hartfiel had three assists, bringing his point total to 22 for the season.

Goalie Adam Hartfiel had 17 saves for the Stars on the night.

By the time this article is printed, the Stars will already have played their first sectional playoff game at Roseau.
