Bulldog gymnasts win at Ortonville

The Bulldogs gymnastics team earned their fourth win of the season, beating host Ortonville 109.9-101.85 on Friday.

Ninth grader Kacy Nehowig won all four individual events and won the all-around competition to lead the Bulldogs. Seventh grader Anna Kotten placed second in three events and third in the fourth and was second in the all around.

Junior Ashley Spanier placed third on the floor exercise for the Dogs, and ninth grader Brittney Spanier was fourth on both the vault and the uneven bars for Paynesville.

The Bulldogs, now 4-7, outscored Ortonville in every event, winning the away meet by eight points.

This week, the Bulldogs had their last dual meet of the season on Tuesday against Litchfield.

On Saturday, Paynesville will host the West Central Conference Meet, with six schools competing: Benson/KMS, Melrose, Morris Area, New London-Spicer, Paynesville, and Prairie Centre Area (LPGE and Sauk Centre).

This meet will be held at the high school gymnasium. Warm-ups will start at 11 a.m., the march-in will be held at 12:45 p.m., and the actual competition begins at 1 p.m.

Paynesville's rotation is a bye, bars, floor, another bye, beam, and vault. Paynesville's gymnasts could compete on bars around 1:10 p.m., on floor around 1:20 p.m., on beam around 1:40 p.m., and on vault around 1:50 p.m., depending on how fast the meet proceeds.

Annandale 129.675, Paynesville 113.1
The Bulldogs, despite a good team score, lost to Annandale on Tuesday, Feb. 3, by the score 129.675-113.1.

Annandale beat the Bulldogs in every event, with the Dogs coming closest on the vault (33.15-31.45) and in the floor exercise (33.7-29.8). Annandale enjoyed their largest margins on the bars (31.2-25.3) and the beam (31.625-26.55).

The Bulldogs topped 30 in only one event (vault) while Annandale topped 30 in all four events.

Kacy Nehowig was the only Bulldog to place, taking first on the vault and the bars, third on the floor, and fourth on the balance beam. She finished third in the all around.
