Squirts win 3rd place in tourney

St. Cloud 5, Paynesville-New London-Spicer 4. Richmond-The PNLS Squirts suffered their first loss of the season in overtime on Saturday in the first round of the invitational tournament. PNLS held a 3-2 lead going into the third period. St. Cloud came back scoring two goals to take the lead, then PNLS scored the tying goal with 28 seconds left in regulation. The Squirts had their chances in the sudden death overtime but could not convert. Scoring for PNLS were Jamie Paul with two goals, Alex Naujokas with one goal and two assists, Max Lahr with one goal, and Ross Barten with one assist. Goal tender Matt Schoen had 26 saves.

PNLS 10, Cold Spring 0. Jamie Paul led the Squirts with five goals and three assists in the second round victory over Cold Spring. Alex Naujokas, Max Lahr, Derek Looman, Patrick Roers, and Justin Bork had a goal each. Ross Barten had two assists, with Shannon Smith, Loomis, and Bork getting one each. Matt Schoen recorded five saves.

PNLS 4, North Branch 2. On Sunday, the PNLS Squirts defeated North Branch to win consolation in the tournament at Richmond. Patrick Roers led the scoring with two goals. Jamie Paul had a goal and an assist, Justin Bork added a goal, with Ross Barten, Alex Naujokas and Max Lahr getting assists. Goalie Matt Schoen had 22 saves.

PNLS: 18-1. Next: vs. Buffalo, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. in Paynesville.
