The Huskies were too tough on their own turf last Thursday night. Despite a very solid first half, Paynesville could not keep pace in the second, losing 53-46.

Tanya Lieser lead the Lady Bulldogs with nine first quarter points. Fellow junior, Carin Frenchick, added six points of her own in the first quarter. Paynesville led 17-14 after the first eight minutes.

Junior Tiff Rausch would be the only Paynesville player to score more than one basket as she tallied four points in the second quarter.

Albany managed a little run prior to the end of the first half and was aided by a couple of questionable calls by the officials. At half, the game was tied at 23.

The third quarter belonged to Albany. The Huskies outscored Paynesville 20-8. Eight grader Darby Noreen shot her way to nine points in the third. Albany center, Mary Jo Hanson scored eight of her 15 game points in the third quarter alone.

Solid Albany defense combined with sharp shooting allowed the Huskies to take control of the game. Paynesville would only manage seven shots in the third.

Paynesville refused to give in. We scored 15 points in the final eight minutes, but still fell short. The Lady Bulldogs attempted 20 shots in the fourth, but could only get four of them to fall.

Carin Frenchick finished with a season high 14 rebounds. Tanya Lieser added 10, and Amber Michaelis grabbed eight.

Sophomore Steph Krupke led the steal department with three, and also added four assists.
