Cheerleading competition to be held Saturday

For the second year in a row, the Paynesville basketball cheerleaders will be hosting a cheerleading competition on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The competition, which will feature cheer squads from ten schools, will start at 1 p.m. and should last until about 3 p.m. It will be held in the gymnasium at the high school.

Schools scheduled to compete are: Paynesville, Montevideo, Apple Valley, Eden Valley-Watkins, Sebeka, New London-Spicer, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Sauk Rapids, De La Salle, and Inver Grove Heights.

Each team will compete in three of the five divisions: cheer/chant without a stunt, cheer/chant with a stunt, school song, competition routine with music, and quarter cheer with a stunt.

The judges will be from Planet Spirit of Minnetonka.

Spectators are welcome, and concessions will be available.

The PAHS basketball cheerleaders are: Lisa Stanger, Jacqie Utsch, Kandace Bengtson, Rachel Keller, Hannah Philabaum, Shanda Loge, Heidi Steinhofer, Alicia Kohnen, Laura Haagenson, and Ashley Hoglund. Managers are Lynn Niewind and Mallory Mackedanz.

They are coached by Sheri Wegner.
