Bullettes finish seventh at WCC meet

By Michael Jacobson

The PAHS varsity dance team - the Bullettes - competed in the West Central Conference meet on Thursday at St. Cloud Cathedral, finishing seventh.

With eight teams competing, the conference placings were: (1) St. Cloud Cathedral, (2) Montevideo, (3) Lac Qui Parle Valley, (4) Yellow Medicine East, (5) Melrose, (6) New London-Spicer, (7) Paynesville, and (8) Albany.

Up against state contenders and past state champions, the Bullettes competed well despite placing just seventh, said coaches Jeanne Virant and Barb Werlinger.

Cathedral won the Class AA state title in high kick/precision last year and placed second in Class AA in jazz/funk. Montevideo has won seven state titles in high kick/precision, and Yellow Medicine East has won four titles in jazz/funk.

This year, 16 girls comprise the PAHS Bullettes: seniors Katie Bertram, Kelly Herzberg, Melanie Mages, LeAnn Nepsund, Megan Reeck (captain), Amanda Skalicky (captain), Kacie Wander, and Lindsey Wyffels; juniors Tawny Bengtson and Amanda Lieser; sophomores Sue Albrecht, Bre Engler, Casandra Hoekstra, Kim Magedanz, and Ashley Ogdahl; and ninth grader Kaitlin Burlingame.

The Bullettes' next competition is sections at Aitkin High School on Saturday, Feb. 4, starting at 12 noon.
