Change of song may have helped

The Pirouettes changed their song and came out victorious last Thursday.

The song the Pirouettes had been using, "Hammering in my Head," really wasn't a song that they felt many people knew. This hurt the scoring when it came to energy. "If the crowd is into your dance, the judges will give the team a better score," captain Cyndi Bollman stated.

The Paynesville Pirouettes had three official practices to get used to their new song, "Little Old Lady from Pasadena," before they competed it in front of the home crowd.

After watching the two teams duke it out for the victory, many bystanders made comments that Paynesville won without a doubt. This was a big win for Paynesville since Albany had outscored them at the invitational the Saturday before.

Even though the judges didn't get the results out to the announcer before the end of the game, the dancers had been informed that they had won the dual meet.

The scores for the two teams were: Albany 67, Paynesville 108.

At 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Pirouettes packed up the school vans and headed to Montevideo for the conference meet.

The Pirouettes were a bit discouraged to find out that Albany had dropped out of the competition. Having beaten Albany's line on Thursday, the team was looking forward to proving their superiority.

All seemed to be going well, except the dancers seemed to be getting continually worse with practice instead of better. Many of the clean and perfected parts were falling apart with every playing of the music. Many of the team members looked a bit worried with this problem.

After the dancers had taken the floor, the music started and the team members looked as if they had found their confidence once again. That was until everybody had their own little mistake.

The team confidence went from sky-high to down in the dumps. The final results showed it, too. Paynesville took sixth place. The scores were:
St. Cloud Cathedral - 74.8
Montevideo - 67.2
LQPV - 61.6
Melrose - 63.8
New London-Spicer - 50.2
Paynesville - 48.2

The Pirouettes will now have a long break to work on a new dance and hopefully dazzle the judges at the next competition!
