Stars get first win of the season

This article submitted by Michael Jacobson on 1/19/00.

The River Lakes Stars played two games this past week, against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and Minneapolis Edison.

The game against LPGE was a game that didn't go in the Stars' favor. The first period went by without much happening. LPGE scored one goal in that period. The second period happened much the same, with LPGE scoring three goals to the Stars' one. The Stars were in the game at the start of the third period, with much to still strive for. Being down by only three goals is still a winable game.

Then in the third period, the Stars couldn't do a whole lot, scoring only one goal again to LPGE's three.

Stars goalie Adam Hartfiel did get 30 saves for the night.

The second game of the week was a much better one. It was played against Minneapolis Edison in Minneapolis. The Stars played well and managed a 5-1 victory over the Tommies.

The first period started with Eric Hartfiel scoring unassisted 23 seconds into the game. Then, the Stars answered again with another goal. Edison scored to finish off the first period, with the score 2-1 in favor of the Stars.

There was not much action on the scoreboard in the second period except another goal for the Stars.

The third period was a real triumph for the Stars, because in so many past instances, the game was lost in the third period. This game was different, with the Stars scoring two more goals and keeping Edison from scoring to make the final score 5-1.

Eric Hartfiel picked up a goal and an assist with goalie Adam Hartfiel getting an assist and stopping 19 shots.

Brett Theisen scored two goals for the Stars. Scott Fritz and Garrett McCain each had a goal and an assist.

The Stars played at Sauk Centre last night. They will play at Benson on Friday.
