River Lakes rallies for tie at Brainerd

The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team earned a tie against Brainerd on Thursday, rallying from a 3-1 deficit on the road.

The Stars - who beat Brainerd 3-2 in their season opener in November at home - allowed Brainerd to score the first three goals of the game.

Sophomore Anna Olson scored the Stars' first goal late in the first period. Eighth grader Kenzie Novak scored in the second period, and eighth grader Abbie Rhoda scored in the third period, tying the game.

The Stars - now 5-6-1 - played St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday. They will play at Little Falls on Thursday and at Litchfield on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Stars were shutout 4-0 by Alexandria on Tuesday, Jan. 6, in Alexandria, with the Cardinals scoring three goals in the first period and one in the third.

Alexandria outshot the Stars 26-11. Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt made 22 saves for the Stars.
