Area youngsters started figure skating lessons on Monday, Jan. 4, at the Koronis Civic Center.

Becky Dreyling, Paynesville, has been working with about 50 youngsters ranging from preschool through seventh grade.

Dreyling is teaching the kids skating techniques, balance control, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, and more. Assisting Dreyling has been Sally Heitke.

For many of the youngsters, they first had to learn how to stand on skates before learning how to glide across the ice.

The classes are offered through community education. This is the fourth year lessons have been offered.
