A comedy entitled “An Evening of Culture” by Mark Landon Smith was selected. It features five female and three male actors. It is considered a play within a play.
The play is about the community theatre producing “Romeo and Juliet” at the local school. The same group of backwoods folk are cast in the debacle and, even though they don’t have their lines memorized, the set isn’t finished, and a dog keeps barking offstage, they are going to give it a go.
Casting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paynesville Area Center.
Characters needed are:
Violet Farkle, everyone’s favorite and the only person in Mineola with any sense (20s)
Mildred Carson: middle-aged busy- body.
Faye McFaye: flirty, young checker at the local A&P (20s).
Naomi Farkle Carson: wife of Luther Carson, owner of the BeeLuvLee Beauty Salon (30 to 40s).
Delbert Fink: a local pig farmer (30s).
Bubba Bedford: owner of Bubba’s Gas ’N Go (20s to 40s).
Luther Carson: husband to Naomi (30s to 40s).
Rehearsals will start on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. and go three nights a week for four weeks.
The play will be presented on Friday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Paynesville Area Center.
