Fewer than expected turn out for annual Christmas party

Community support of the annual Christmas party exceeded projections, but actual turnout turned out to be a disappointment, reported Donna Toney, director of the Paynesville Community Service Center.

The center had 116 registrations, but only 63 kids actually attended the party, which was held at Paynesville Lutheran Church on Thursday, Dec. 14.

Toney said a half dozen families called her to cancel, but she was disappointed in the number of no-shows, especially in light of the community's support and effort in organizing the party.

"The community was excellent. They were fantastic," said Toney. "We were really, really blessed."

The sad part, Toney said, was to have so many no-shows after so many people volunteered and worked to make extra preparations available for the party.

"For the ones that were there, they had a blast," she said.
