Paynesville man killed in truck rollover

By Michael Jacobson

A Paynesville man was killed in a pickup truck rollover on Saturday afternoon on Co. Rd. 2 near Hawick.

Jerome Hubert Herding, 77, of rural Paynesville, driving a 2003 Ford pickup, was southbound on Co. Rd. 2, about two miles south of Hawick, when it left the roadway, traveled through the ditch and a plowed field, struck a large uprooted tree, and rolled.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department, the New London Ambulance, the New London Fire Department, and the Paynesville Fire and Rescue Department all responded to the accident report.

Herding was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident.

Herding, a North Dakota native and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, married Leone Manz of Paynesville in June 1956 and has farmed since then in Roseville Township.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville.

A full obituary also can be found online this week.
