City council holds
annual truth-in-taxation

The Paynesville City Council held their annual truth-in-taxation public hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The public hearing lasted half an hour with no public comments or questions.

The revised budget and levy proposal calls for a 2007 tax levy of $506,060 and a total budget of $1,718,506 for 2007. The proposed budget is up 10.5 percent from 2006 while the proposed levy is up 4.5 percent from 2006.

To balance its budget, the city also expects $627,539 in Local Govern ment Aid in 2007 (up $48,410 from 2006) and $584,907 in other revenue.

In addition to the proposed tax levy increase, water and sewer fees are proposed to rise in 2007.

For water rates, the quarterly flat rate is proposed at $14.50 (up from $13.63) with the bulk rate increasing 10¢ (from $1.83 to $1.93 for 2,001 to 99,999 gallons, from $1.78 to $1.88 for 100,000 to 500,000 gallons, and from $1.77 to $1.87 for more than 500,000 gallons).

The quarterly flat sewer rate is proposed at $16 for 2007, up two cents from $15.98 in 2006. The bulk rate for the sewer is proposed at the same $1.99 for 2007.

The Paynesville City Council has the proposed levy and budget on its agenda for its meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at which time the council could approve it.
