The Paynesville Area School District was a recent recipient of the SEEDS scholarship of $500. The Scholarship for Educational Enhancement of Disabled Students (SEEDS) was awarded by the Schools Insurance Fund of Brookfield, Wis. The company has been awarding scholarships nationwide for about five years to be used with disabled children.

The scholarships are awarded and intended to be used towards facilities, equipment, or other resources to aid in the development or educational advance-ment of disabled students.

The $500 scholarship was divided between the elementary, high school and middle school. The preschool department used their funds to purchase some new toys. The elementary and middle school special education departments are purchasing new computer software for the students to use. At the high school, they are considering purchasing transitional materials to help students adjust from school to work.

Nationwide 10 scholarships are awarded each year with four designated for Minnesota. The other Minnesota communities receiving the scholarship include Annandale, Buffalo Lake/Hector and Wrenshall. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City was a 1996 SEEDS recipient.
