Paynesville students attend choir festivals

St. John's festival
Six members of the Paynesville Area High School Choirs attended the Seventh Annual Combined Men's Choir and Women's Choir Festival at St. John's University on Saturday, Oct. 26. The festival is sponsored by ACDA (American Choral Director's Association) of Minnesota.

Choir members and directors from 12 college/university choirs and 63 high school choirs traveled from all over Minnesota to participate in the all day festival. Rehearsals were held throughout the day, as well as two mini concerts performed by the college choirs. The festival finale performance was at 4:30 p.m. in the Abbey Church at St. John's. The Combined Festival Chorus had over 1000 voices.

Participating from Paynesville Area High School were: Curtis Christian, Kim Colbert, Eddie Gardner, Andrea Roeser, Janel Schefers and Melissa Schneider. Their directors are Cheryl Bungum and student teacher Gretchen McLellan from the College of St. Benedict.

UMD festival
Eight members of the Paynesville Area Middle School Choir and seven members of the Paynesville Area High School Choir attended the UMD Honor Choir Festival held at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Monday, Nov. 4. Students from 56 schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin participated in the all day festival.

The Paynesville area students left Paynesville at 4:30 a.m. along with director Cheryl Bungum and student teacher Gretchen McLellan. Rehearsals began at 8:45 a.m., rehearsing all day with several breaks and then performing a concert at 4:45 p.m. at the Marshall Performing Arts Center Stage.

Participating in this year's UMD Junior High Honor Choir were: Erin O'Fallon, Jana Zumwalde, Becky Gardner, Ginni Lahr, Jeremiah Koehn, Scott Ingalsbe, Nathan Martinson, and Chris Wendlandt.

Participating in this year's UMD Senior High Honor Choir were: Tricia Butkofski, Melissa Schneider, Sarah Novak, Janel Schefers, Curtis Christian, Ken Leo, and Lael Zwiefel.
