Among the awards are Outstanding Boss of the Year, Employee of the Year, Outstanding Farmer of the Year, Outstanding Young Person of the Year (between the ages of 16 and 25) and Community Service Award.
Winners last year were: Wally Thyen, Boss of the Year. He was nominated because he is courteous, friendly, a person with a smile and hello for everybody.
The Community Service Award was presented to Tom Koshiol. He was nominated because of the countless hours he spends working with the Trail Guards working to reclaim a natural resource.
Employee of the Year honors went to Al Roemeling. An employee with Lakedale Telephone, he has been active in the Paynesville Lions organization, a member of the Paynesville Trail Guards and is a representative of the Paynesville Athletic Booster Club.
Bob and Roger Hemmesch were named Outstanding Farmers of the Year. Bob Hemmesch started his own farming operation in 1965 and his son, Roger, joined the operation in 1987.
Erin Pelton was named Outstanding Young Person. A former Miss Paynesville, she is active in her church, playing the organ and singing in the choir. She is also a willing volunteer when asked.
The awards will be presented at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Paynesville Press, Lieser Insurance, and H.F. Paul Agency. Nominations must be returned by Dec. 15.
Tim Gabrielson, a magician/comic, will be entertaining at the banquet. Election of officers and board of directors will be held as well. Two positions will need to be filled on the board the one held by Steve Brisendine and a vacant seat.
