Ruthie's has new cosmetologist

By Bonnie Jo Hanson

Rachel (Smith) Nelson Ruthie's Hair Design in Paynesville has welcomed Rachel (Smith) Nelson as a new cosmetologist.

Nelson is a Paynesville native who graduated from PAHS in 1999 and from the Ridgewater College School of Cosmetology in late October.

Nelson and her husband, Brad, live outside of Paynesville and are sports fans. She enjoys volleyball and tennis.

As a cosmetologist, Nelson will cut hair and give manicures and pedicures. She is qualified to do facials and hopes the service will be added to the shop's offerings. Currently, she is studying massage and would like to eventually add it as a service also.

Nelson began taking her general education classes at college right after high school, but she couldn't decide at the time what she wanted to do. She decided on cosmetology because she wanted to work around other people and because as a cosmetologist she can make people feel good about themselves. She particularly likes to do hair because a new hairdo can make a big difference in a person's self-esteem, she said.
