Highway 23 to remain single lane this winter

By Michael Jacobson

Due to the wet and cold weather this fall, the four-lane expansion of a 7.6-mile section of Highway 23 between Interstate 94 and Cold Spring will be completed in the spring of 2003.

"Weather is simply a factor we cannot control. I am very disappointed that we are unable to open the new four-lane section to traffic this year," said Mn/DOT project supervisor Micky Klasen.

Over the winter, Highway 23 traffic will remain single lane in each direction on the newly constructed eastbound lanes and the connecting roads to Rockville will remain open.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully in the work zone and to be alert for the lane shifts and reduced speeds.

Work on the $13.8 million four-lane expansion project will be completed in the spring of 2003.
