“There is a fair amount of traffic in the area and we need to look at alternative access routes,” Pete Carlson, city engineer, said. At present, Spruce Street is the only entrance and exit in the area.
The council approved a resolution to prepare a report on whether it would be feasible to plat and develop the area from Spruce Street to Highway 181.
If the proposal is deemed feasible, the land in this area would be annexed to the city.
In other business:
• The council approved placing 16 delinquent refuse, utility and sewer and water accounts to the county auditor to be placed on the property owners real estate taxes.
•The council approved the street assessment of $1,295 for H&L Express for upgrading Minnesota Street. H&L Express has 100 feet of frontage.
•The council approved adopting the assessments as submitted for the west end lift station improvements. The assessments ranged from $844 to $4,210.
The Paynesville Area Senior Center was present at a public hearing asking that their assessment be lowered. If the assessment was based on acreage ($1,408 per acre), the center owns only one acre and rents almost two acres from the city. “The center also uses the least amount of water in the area,” Don Torbenson, center spokesperson, said.
The council discussed their request and voted to leave the assessment as is at $4,083.
