Cable services upgraded

By Linda Stelling

Upgraded cable service starts today in Paynesville. Mediacom has upgraded its cable packages and introduced digital cable.

Digital cable features expanded channel offerings and a user friendly interactive guide for the more viewer control, choice, and convenience. According to Bill Jensen, regional manager for Mediacom, customers will get more of what they want: more movies, more special interest channels, and more pay-per-view channels.

With digital cable, subscribers will be able to access 45 digital music channels, 22 digital access channels, 30 digital pay-per-view channels, up to 42 premium movie channels, and 16 Spanish-language channels.

Another feature of digital cable is the parental control that gives parents the ability to manage the programs their families watch. Accessed by a specific code determined by customers, programming can be blocked by movie rating, specific title, or channel.

Mediacom customers will continue to receive local broadcast networks and independent stations. Some stations have been moved to new channel locations because of the upgrade.

The upgrade comes with new rates, effective in December. Limited basic (now 21 channels) will be $13.50 per month; family cable (with 65 channels, including 22 new stations) will be $36.95; and digital packages (five options) start at $49.95.
