Charity drive reaches a quarter of its goal

By Michael Jacobson

The Paynesville Area Charity Fund Drive - which started its ninth annual drive at the start of October - has reached a quarter of its goal.

So far, $10,500 has been received by the organizing committee. This year's goal is to raise $40,000 for local, state, and national charities.

Last year, the drive raised $37,500, exceeding its goal by $5,500.

Residents should have received a letter explaining the drive and listing the various charities in October. Extra copies of this letter, which doubles as a donation form, are available at the Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union, Community First National Bank, Farmers and Merchants State Bank, the Paynesville Post Office, and the Paynesville Press.

The drive ends on Dec. 31, 2001.

These local charities are listed in the fund drive: Community Service Center, Consortium for the Creative Arts, Crow River Trail Guards, Friends of the Paynesville Area Public Library, Paynesville Area Boy Scouts, Paynesville Area Center, Paynesville Area Dollars for Scholars, Paynesville Area Health Care System Auxiliary, Paynesville Area Girl Scouts, Paynesville Area Special Olympics, the Paynesville Branch of the Rice Hospice, Paynesville Historical Society, Paynesville Marching Band, Paynesville Youth Athletic Association, and Reaching Out to Seniors Effectively (R.O.S.E. Center).
