Eden Lake fund drive has best year ever

The 26th annual Eden Lake United Charity fund drive turned out to be the best year ever. The planning committee had set this yearâs goal at $4,000. The fund drive collected a total of $4,022.

This money was distributed to the following charities and organizations: $1,750, Eden Valley Rescue Squad; $750, Watkins Ambulance; $500, Paynesville Ambulance; $300, Eden Valley FoodShelf; $100, Eden Valley swimming program, and $100 to each of the following: American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Willmar State Hospital, Courage Center, and Salvation Army. Any remaining money was added to the emergency fund for hardships within the township.

The committee thanks Bill Sturm for chairing the drive this year. They also thank all the solicitors and all those who donated to this once a year fund drive. A special thank you to Leonard and Martha Torborg for the double duty they did by collecting in their area of 12A and also area 1A. Officers of the 1997 fund drive are: Rosemary Ruprecht, president; Doug Stade, treasurer; and Tess Thielen, secretary.
