Programs planned for Veteran's Day

Programs are planned this week to celebrate Veteran's Day, which is Friday, Nov. 11.

Second graders from Paynesville Area Elementary School will present the program, "My Town, My World," on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in the school auditorium. The program, which is open to parents and the public, is a tribute to community and to heroes past and present. It is directed by Charlene Strand. The second graders will repeat their musical on the morning of Friday, Nov. 11, for the elementary students and staff.

On Friday, the middle school program will be held at 1:25 p.m. and the high school program at 2:25 p.m., both in the auditorium, with Vietnam veteran Bob Bowden, also a former teacher and a longtime reservist, as the guest speaker. Both of these programs will feature songs by the repective grade-level band and choirs as well as patriotic readings, a picture display, and a color guard from the American Legion. Both programs are open to the public.

The Paynesville American Legion will hold their annual Veteran's Day dinner at 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Legion hall. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, Nov. 9, by calling Inez at 243-4799.
