Programs planned next week
to celebrate Veteran's Day

Programs and events are planned this week and next to celebrate Veteran's Day, which is actually Saturday, Nov. 11, this year.

The Paynesville American Legion will hold their annual Veteran's Day dinner at 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Legion hall. Veterans and widows eat free; for others, the dinner costs $6.25. Reservations must be made by 12 noon on Thursday, Nov. 9, by calling Inez at 243-4799.

On Monday, Nov. 13, programs will be held at PAMS and PAHS. The middle school program will be held at 1:20 p.m. and the high school program at 2:15 p.m., both in the auditorium, with Vietnam veteran Bill Ryan, who was wounded in action and later taught agriculture at PAHS, as the guest speaker. Both of these programs will feature songs by the respective grade-level band and choirs as well as patriotic readings, and a color guard from the American Legion. Both programs are open to the public.

Second graders at the Paynesville Area Elementary School will present a patriotic program for the public in the school auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. "Freedom: A Musical Celebration of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" features songs about our country, the heroes who protect our freedom, the choices we all make, and the realization that freedom is to be appreciated and not taken for granted.
