School board approves
winter athletic assignments for 2006-07

District #741 School Board The Paynesville Area School Board took the following actions at their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

•The board approved athletic assignments for the 2006-07 winter sports season: girls' basketball - Jackie Parsley, head coach; Amber Michaelis, assistant; Jennifer Andrist, ninth grade; Brad Nepsund, junior high; and Kristen Woelfel, junior high; boys' basketball - Phillip Carlson, head coach; Ross Engelstad, assistant; Riley Flanders, ninth grade; Todd Knudsvig, junior high; and Nespund, junior high; wrestling - Tim Woehler, head coach; Jason Mages, assistant; and Tracy Peipenburg, junior high; gymnastics - Deb Nehowig, head coach; and Julie Doom, assistant; wrestling cheerleading - Sandy Spanier; and danceline - Barb Werlinger and Jeanne Virant, co-coaches.

•The board heard a 10-minute presentation, including a video, from junior Allie Wendroth, who completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project at the elementary playground. Wendroth organized friends, neighbors, and relatives to help her with improvements at the playground over the summer, including scraping and repainting and installing a new gate facing the city's neighboring Gazebo Park.

Elementary principal Deb Gillman presented Wendroth with thank you cards and posters from students, and superintendent Todd Burlingame presented Wendroth with a recognition certificate on behalf of the district.

•The board approved a long-term substitute teaching contract for Melinda Tatge, who will replace middle school special education teacher Alycia Long from November to March, while Long is on maternity and childcare leave.

•The board approved the annual seniority lists for certified staff (teachers), for the custodial staff, and for the food service staff.

•The board approved an annual statement of compliance with state and federal laws prohibiting discrimination.
