Trapper earns president's award

Ken Olsen of Paynesville received the President's Award from the Minnesota Trappers Association this summer.

His award was featured in the August newsletter of the Minnesota Trappers Association.

Olsen is one of the youngest officers of the Minnesota Trappers Association and earned the award for his focus on education. Although he is a newer member, president Gary Meis wrote in the newsletter, Olsen has 'left a lasting impression on all of us with his enthusiasm and passion for the youth of the trapping fraternity. I seriously doubt there is anyone who has gone into more schools or other establishments to teach and spread the facts about trapping..."

Olsen has frequently spoke about trapping and displayed some of his furs to students at Paynesville Area Middle School.

Olsen, known on the board as Mr. Ed (for education), also is the first to raise his hand with ideas for programs and committees, according to Meis.
