DNR lifts burning restrictions

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has lifted all burning restrictions as of 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. Open burning permits had been suspended since the end of September in anticipation of the strike by state employees. Residents needing to burn vegetative material can now acquire a burning permit from state fire wardens or DNR forestry offices.

"The current cool and wet conditions will help in controlling permit fires," said George Meadows, fire prevention coordinator for the DNR Forestry Division. "However," Meadows said, "the DNR reminds people that they must still attend their fires at all times and make sure that a fire is completely out before leaving."
