Property taxes due today in Stearns County

Stearns County residents are reminded that the second half of this year's property taxes are due on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Those who have property classified as agricultural have until Saturday, Nov. 15, to pay.

As payments on the county website become much more popular for residents, the county has made a few changes with this system. First, the $2 convenience fee for paying online with an e-check has been eliminated. It is now free to pay with an e-check.

Also, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 8, the county accepts credit card payments for anyone paying on the county website. There is a two percent convenience fee charged by the credit card companies with this method of payment.

To pay electronically, go to www.co.stearns.mn.us and click on the red View Tax Information or Pay Property Taxes icon. Payments can be made anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, up until midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

For those not wanting to pay their taxes electronically, they can stop in and pay in person. Payments are accepted at the county treasurer's office, located in the administration building in downtown St. Cloud or at License Center West.

Checks can also be mailed and must be postmarked by the post office on or before the due date.

When making a payment by mail or in person, be sure to include the stub portion of the tax statement to insure proper credit. Late payments will be returned to the taxpayer if proper penalty is not included.

For more information, contact the treasurer's office at 320-656-3870.
