Pharm.D. resident working at PAHCS

By Addi Larson

Bryan Stroyny is a new doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) resident at the Paynesville Area Health Care System.

Bryan Stroyny, Pharm.D. Stroyny, who joined the staff in July, will spend the next nine months consulting with patients about their medications, dispensing drugs, and monitoring drug therapies at the hospital, clinic, and nursing home.

For instance, Stroyny will interview diabetic patients on anti-coagulant medications about their diets and study their diabetes regimens. Blood-glucose values will be tracked, and dosages adjusted accordingly to ensure their health and accommodate their lifestyle needs. He will re-examine patients and will work closely with doctors to recommend drug therapies. He will also counsel smoking cessation and asthma patients and provide education on inhaler use.

Stroyny grew up in Mosinee, Wisc., and arrived at PAHCS after receiving his bachelor of science from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and his doctor of pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

"The whole idea of the residency is that it basically excels your learning curve," he said. "It benefits (PAHCS). We staff here and work here. And it benefits me because I get to learn."

He said of working in Paynesville, "It's definitely a nice town. People are very nice."

In his free time, he bicycles around Lake Koronis and Rice Lake. Stroyny also enjoys working out at the Paynesville Fitness Center, trout fishing, and cross country skiing.
