The first annual Trail-a-Thon, organized by the Paynesville Area Jaycees to increase awareness and raise funds for the proposed pedestrian trail around Lake Koronis, will be held Saturday, Oct. 9. The Trail-a-Thon will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The starting point will be at the Gazebo Park in Paynesville, and the ending point will be Veteran's Memorial Park on Lake Koronis. Participants can walk, bike, run, or rollerblade. Bikers, runners, and rollerbladers have the option of going around the lake. There will be water stops around the lake for participants.

Participants can register the same day. The cost is $5, which includes a T-shirt and lunch.

Participants will need to gather pledges for donations prior to the event. Afterwards, they will need to collect the donations. Registration sheets are available at local businesses. Prizes will be given to the top two fund raisers. There also will be door prizes.

Already, through corporate donations, the Paynesville Area Jaycees have raised almost $5,000 for the trail project. The idea is to build an eight-foot wide trail around Lake Koronis to provide a safe pathway for pedestrian traffic. For more information about the Trail-a-Thon, contact Liz Greguson at 320-243-7551.
