PAHCS reviews August financial statements

The Paynesville Area Hospital District Board of Directors took the following actions at their meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

•The board approved a budget for their 2007 fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1, 2006. The district's financial years run from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

The budget for 2007 calls for a projected profit of $1.35 million, up from a profit of $1 million budgeted the past two years. The Paynesville Area Health Care System - as the hospital district is called commercially - also expects to spend $1.5 million on capital purchases in 2007 and put another $1 million in reserves.

•The board reviewed its financial statements for August, which showed a profit of $159,600, bringing PAHCS's profits for the current fiscal year (2006) over $1 million.

•The board approved two medical staff appointments to the ancillary staff: Bryan Stroyny, a Pharm.D. resident, who will be spending a year at PAHCS; and Michelle Douvier, a physician assistant student who will be spending nine months at PAHCS.

•The board was informed that Dr. Mariola Czapiewska has accepted PAHCS's offer, but foreign medical graduates require an in-depth review for licensing which may take up to nine months to complete.

Dr. Maureen Kemper has obtained her Minnesota license, and when her credentialing process is completed she will work three days at the clinic in Cold Spring.

•The board - which usually meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month - again agreed to hold only one meeting in November and December. To avoid holiday conflicts, the board set a joint November/December meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m.
