Six thousand affected by power outage

Nearly 5,000 Xcel Energy customers and 1,400 Meeker Cooperative customers, including those in the Paynesville area, were affected by a power outage on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Due to an equipment failure, 4,995 Xcel Energy customers lost power at 11:08 p.m., according to an Xcel Energy spokesperson. Power was restored to 4,333 customers 80 minutes later, by 12:28 a.m.

Power was restored to the remaining 662 Xcel customers by 1:28 a.m.

The power also went out for Meeker Cooperative members at 11:08 p.m. and was restored by 12:29 a.m. Meeker Cooperative said the transmission outage was caused by a breaker lockout.
