"Murder in the House of Horrors" is the title of the next community play. "Since the play will be held close to Halloween, we thought a chamber of horrors display would be of interest to young and old alike," Jim McCalmant, senior center director, said. The play calls for a cast of seven men, and eight women of various ages from 20 to 50, plus several nonspeaking extras can serve as museum guards and exhibit workers.

The mystery/comedy play features audience participation. The audience attends a museum lecture on "Monsters, Murderers and Madmen" presented by Professor Dirk Carlton, a renowned Egyptologist, telling of his discovery of the Pharaoh Menkaura's tomb. While watching his slides, the auditorium plunges into darkness. When the lights come on, the professor is dead and the priceless jewel he was holding has vanished. The audience is now drawn into this mystery, both as witnesses and suspects.

Playbooks are available this week to read through. Tryouts are set for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. at the senior center, with rehearsals starting Monday, Sept. 9. Dress rehearsals will be held Oct. 17, with the performance scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19.

Tickets will go on sale Monday, Sept. 16. All seats will be reserved. For more information contact McCalmant at the Paynesville Area Senior Center, 320-243-4799.
