Auto dealers honor Stang

The Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association has named Rep. Doug Stang (R-Cold Spring) as its 2002 Legislator of the Year.

Rep. Doug Stang (R-Cold Spring) receives the 2002 Legislator of the Year Award by the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Associatoin from Dick Johnson of Vern Johnson Motors in Paynesville.

Stang serves as vice chair of the House Commerce Committee, which oversees insurance, banking, and trade law. "Doug Stang has really been a common-sense voice for fair business practices in Minnesota," said Scott Lambert, executive vice president of the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association (MADA).

In 2002, Stang carried legislation to help consumers get their motor vehicle titles processed faster. He also supported the elimination of the $4 fee that consumers pay when their motor vehicle title is transferred. This fee was set to be eliminated, but legislative action kept it in place.

Stang also supported legislation that would have ensured properly functioning airbags in used vehicles, and opposed an increase in vehicle license tab fees and increased taxes on gasoline.

MADA is the trade association for the 475 franchised new car dealers across Minnesota.
