Three area farms honored as century farms

This article submitted by Linda Stelling on 8/18/98.

Three Paynesville area farms were among 253 in the state recognized by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau for reaching the century farm milestone. In Stearns County, the Tony and Pat Stalboerger farm was honored. In Kandiyohi County, the Mary Niemczyk and Clifton Nygaard farms were honored.

Qualifying families own farms that have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are at least 50 acres in size. Century Farm families receive an aluminum building sign and a commemorative certificate signed by the president of the State Fair and the governor.

Since the program began in 1976, a total of 6,880 farms in Minnesota have been recognized as century farms.
