GUM to host 42nd annual flower show

The women of the Grace United Methodist Church will sponsor their 42nd annual flower show on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 4 from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Flowers and plants must be grown by the exhibitor in the Horticultural and Houseplant divisions. They need not be grown by the exhibitor for Artistic Arrangements.

An exhibitor may make as many arrangements as desired, but only one entry of each number with the exception to this rule in horticultural exhibits where more than one color or variety of specimens will be accepted of roses, petunias, lilies, gladiolus, marigolds, and zinnias.

Flowers should be left on display until the show closes at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, and then picked up promptly. Any flowers left will be kept in the Fellowship Hall until Monday noon, and then given away if not claimed.

Figurines and other accessories may be used in arrangements. Grace United Methodist Church chooses not to be responsible for these items.

Children under 14 years of age may enter in the children's class only.

Flower arrangers who have been First Prize winners in three previous shows or frequent winners at fairs or other shows shall be called Advanced Amateurs and shall be judged separately from Amateurs.

Entries will be accepted on Saturday between 8 and 11 a.m.

This is a free, nonprofit community event. Grace Church invites everybody to come and see the beautiful displays.
