By Michael Jacobson

Fireworks and boat parades are planned again for the Fourth of July celebrations on Rice Lake and Lake Koronis from Saturday, July 2, to Monday, July 4.

The boat parade on Rice Lake will be held on Saturday, July 2, with boats assembling in the bay by Morningstar Resort at 4 p.m. for registration. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. going in a clockwise direction around the lake. Prizes - to be awarded at the Rice Lake Association's annual picnic on Saturday, July 16 - are $25 and a traveling trophy for first place; $20 for second place; and $15 for third. The Paynesville Community Club will launch fireworks from First Island over Lake Koronis at dusk (around 10 p.m.) on Sunday, July 3. Boaters should remember to stay at least 1,000 feet away from First Island for safety purposes.

And a boat parade will be held on Lake Koronis on Monday, July 4. Boaters should meet at the Lake Koronis Regional Park on the south shore at 12:30 p.m. with the parade going in a counterclockwise direction starting at 1 p.m. Prizes - $25, $15, and $10 in Chamber bucks - will be awarded to the top three entrants.
