New police officer hired for Paynesville

Kent Kortlever, 31, Pipestone, started his duties as the new Paynesville Police officer on Tuesday, June 17.

A native of Pipestone, Kortlever attended Alexandria Technical College from 1988 to 1990 enrolled in the law enforcement program. He has worked four years with the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Department and three years with the city of Pipestone Police Department.

The Pipestone Police Department will be disbanded as of July 1 and the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Department will be taking over coverage of the city after that date.

Kortlever said his philosophy/goal about law enforcement is to make a community safe and to build good public relations with the residents.

Kortlever and his wife, Tracy, have two children: Tyler, 3 1/2, and Tanner, 18 days old. He lists as his interests snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.
