A new award this year was presented during the 1998 Miss Paynesville pageant; it was the Ruth Aulick Award to be given annually by the Paynesville Human Rights Commission. Lisa Demuth, right, former commission chairperson, presented the award to its namesake, Ruth Aulick, left.

The purpose of the award will be to honor someone from the community that has worked for the rights of all people in the Paynesville community. Aulick started the Community Service Center and the local food shelf.

"It is no secret that Ruth has tirelessly worked to better the less fortunate of the Paynesville area, regardless of their ability, ethnic background or beliefs," Joe Voss, commission member, said.
