Summer theater to perform shows
This Thursday and Friday, 23 members of the Children's Summer Theater program - part of Paynesville's Community Education - will act out two mixed-up fairy tales. "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "After Ever Happily" will be performed both nights at 7 p.m.|
Cast members for "Jack and the Beanstalk" include (left to right): Kari Hoeft, Kylie Bergman, Katelyn Hoeft, Mackenzie Haines, Jacqulyn Hoeft, Donald Neu, Sam Haines, Allicyn Nelson, and Kellen Anderson. Not pictured are Matthew Anderson, Ivy Nelson, and Joey Nelson.
"Jack and the Beanstalk" uses the traditional characters from that story, but adds twists to their personalities and to the plot. For example, Jack is gullible and the giant and his wife are not scary. The cow refuses to be sold, the narrator nearly fights with Jack's mother about the magical beans, and the giant's wife nags him about mowing their lawn.
The second short play draws from many fairy tales as it tells the tale of a girl who mixes and combines them by opening an old storybook. The pages of the book are jumbled, and chaos ensues. Cinderella kisses the frog prince, the evil Queen from Snow White falls in love with Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel eat aluminum siding off a house, and Prince Charming ditches Snow White for Sleeping Beauty.
"After Ever Happily" will be performed by (left to right): Sydney Riley, Katelyn Dingmann, Taylor Buchta, Avery Davidson, Alayna Buggs, McKenna Evans, Larry Carlson, Taylor Loesch, Lauren Spaeth, Donald Neu, and Kellen Anderson. Not pictured are Matthew Anderson, Randi Lehmkuhl, and Teirrah Syvertson.
Performances are at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16, in the high school auditorium. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students, with preschoolers attending free.
